About our Annual Santa Sleigh
Created by the Folsom Police Officers’ Association nearly 30 years ago, the primary focus of Santa Sleigh, (in addition to spreading holiday joy and Christmas cheer) is to collect food donations for the Twin Lakes Food Bank in Folsom.
Folsom Police Officer, Daren Prociw, played a pivotal role in the development of the Santa Sleigh. As a young Police Explorer, Daren was involved with this project near its very beginning. When he was hired as a Reserve Police Officer, Daren adopted the project in its entirety, dedicating nearly 20 years to the cause. He spent countless hours, redesigning and improving upon the original sleigh design. With help from then Police Chief, Sam Spiegel, an old light bar from a former police cruiser was even attached to the sleigh to give it that extra bit of flair. Daren redesigned the routes to maximize people’s enjoyment of this experience, while also providing for adequate stop locations along each route so people could stop and take photos with Santa.
Year after year, the Santa Sleigh project has collected hundreds of pounds of food donations for the Twin Lakes Food Bank, in addition to new, unwrapped toys that are then donated to families in need within our community. The Folsom CAPS (Citizens Assisting Public Safety) Volunteers and Folsom Fire Department volunteer their time each year to assist us in this endeavor.
We thank you for your endless support. Your generosity is what makes Santa Sleigh such an overwhelming success, year after year. This year kicks off on Sunday, December 9th, with Santa scheduled to leave the Police Department at 5:00 PM. We look forward to seeing everyone for Santa Sleigh 2018!
